The State of Connecticut Technical High School System (CTECSis hiring for mulitiple Health Technology Instructors (THS Instructor - Professional) to join our professional education teams, with current vacancies at A.I. Prince Technical High School and EC Goodwin Technical High School.

To be considered for this position, Health Technology Instructors must hold the 109 Health Occupations - Vocational Technical Schools AND a License or a temporary permit as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut or hold a Multistate or Compact Registered Nurse license.

CONNECTICUT TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL SYSTEM

For over 100 years, CTECS has been the leading force in Career Technical Education (CTE) in the State of Connecticut. CTECS operates 17 diploma-granting technical high schools, one technical education center and two airframe mechanics and aircraft maintenance programs. The school system provides a direct employment pipeline for high school students and adult learners.

YOUR ROLE 

Health Technology students learn health care safety, nutrition, characteristics of health care teams, National Health Care Standards, categories of health care facilities, legal/ethical/moral concerns in health care, and effective communication including medical terminology. The program provides broad-based exposure to a variety of health careers. In grade 11 students are eligible to become certified nursing assistants.

As a Health Technology Instructor you will be responsible for: 

  • Curriculum Delivery: Teach Health Technology theory.
  • Clinical Supervision: Oversee student rotations at healthcare facilities.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a professional, safe, and disciplined environment.
  • Student Assessment: Grade clinical competencies and academic health coursework.
  • Skill Validation: Certify student proficiency in trade related skills.
  • Industry Compliance: Align classroom instruction with industry standards.
As a condition of employment, the hired educator is required to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the proper endorsements to transport CTECS students.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System this class is accountable for educating students in academic and trade coursework.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Health Technology instructors are expected to be capable of teaching all aspects of the Health Technology curriculum. 
    • The Health Technology program is a mixture of theoretical and hands-on training. The theoretical training will require instructors to plan and deliver information, and then assess the student’s competency. This will be done in a variety of methods; some will include the use of educational technology. 
    • Instructors need the basic computer skills to access online curriculum/resources and present lessons to students.
    • The hands-on portion of the Health Technology curriculum will require instructors to possess the technical skill and physical ability to complete various healthcare tasks. 
    • Standing and moving around can be expected for a majority of each shift. Along with standing and moving, many tasks will require the ability to bend at the waist, squat and kneel, as well as work with and manipulate items above the head. Lifting and transporting heavier items can also be expected.
    • The instructor is also responsible for obtaining and retaining a Connecticut CDL with proper endorsements, to transport students.
    • Participating in building and district level professional development and collaboration. This will include working with various committees and departments to facilitate educating students.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • One (1) year of work experience in a long-term care or rehabilitation facility;
    • Experience teaching, preparing lesson plans, differentiated learning and assessing student;
    • College Career Pathway (CCP) or UCONN Early College Experience (ECE) instructors; and/or
    • Have completed the following courses at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU): VTE 113, VTE 116 and Special Education.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.
