      POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

      THE ROLE

      This position is appointed by the Governor, with the approval of the General Assembly, in accordance with the provisions of C.G.S § 38a-1042 et al. 


      We are seeking an experienced Social Media Manager (Executive Assistant 1) to develop, implement, track, and optimize our digital marketing and communications across all digital channels. This position is part of the Communications Team and reports to the Communications Director. The ideal candidate is an accomplished Communications Professional with a willingness to introduce fresh perspectives to the Communications Operations Team, and the CTDOT. We need your excellent written skills, online and social media proficiency, graphic design, and strategic communications to fulfill this role.

      As the Social Media Manager, you will be responsible for building a brand identity and online presence through the creation and dissemination of multimedia content online. This involves developing content strategies that are customer centered, equitable, and inclusive. The successful candidate will have data-driven thinking, analytical skills, and a commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

      The CTDOT Office of Communications is tasked with providing and coordinating timely and accurate information to the public about transportation issues, construction projects, public transit operations, traffic and roadway conditions, emergency operations, special initiatives, and achievements through multiple communication channels. The position requires a hands-on approach with day-to-day communication activities, including drafting and editing, and staffing events.

      Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

      • Design, build, and maintain our online and social media presence.
      • Be responsible for visual design projects including graphic design for social media campaigns, videography, photography, signage, and digital signage.
      • Play an integral role in shaping perceptions and influencing public awareness of our long-term vision, strategy, and programs for serving the mobility needs of Connecticut’s residents and businesses while supporting economic growth, strong communities, and a healthy sustainable environment.
      • Ensure information is reaching constituencies who have been historically underserved.
      • Measure and report on the performance of all digital communications and marketing efforts.
      • Brainstorm new and creative growth strategies with internal teams and community partners.
      • Collaborate with sister agencies and other vendor partners.
      • Plan digital marketing campaigns, including web, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing), email, social media, digital signage, and display advertising.
      • Evaluate emerging technologies, providing thought leadership and perspective for adoption where appropriate.

      PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

      Acts as an executive assistant to a state elective officer or department head as defined in Section 4-5 of the Connecticut General Statutes and performs such duties as are assigned.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Experience with government or a transportation related field.
      • Experience in social media, digital and multi-media communications, website strategies, videography, photography, graphic design, and digital signage.
      • Experience with developing original content, such as infographics and explainer videos.
      • Experience written and oral communication including spelling, grammar, and proofreading.
      • Experience in shooting and editing photos and videos.
      • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite. 
      • Experience in identifying key audiences and devising digital strategies that engage, inform, and motivate them.
      • Experience leading and managing SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing), marketing database, email, social media and display advertising campaigns.
      • Experience in optimizing landing pages and user funnels.
      • Experience with website analytics tools including Google Analytics.
      • Experience in setting up and optimizing Google AdWords campaigns.
      • Experience with keyword placement and SEO.
