THE POSITION:
The State of ConnecticutDepartment of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking an experienced and qualified Supervising Nurse (40 Hour) to join their team. This position will oversee all units in the General Psychiatry Division. 

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
  • SCHEDULE: Full-Time (40 Hours), First Shift (7:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M.), Rotating schedule

DMHAS is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve. 

ABOUT THE FACILITY:
CVH is the largest of DMHAS facilities, and includes 17 inpatient units over two campuses (Middletown and Hartford). The hospital includes both a general psychiatry and addiction services units. CVH provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment, including treatment for pregnant women and persons with dual diagnoses. Specialty areas include geriatric and special services, an integrated network of comprehensive mental health services for older adults and young adult services. The facility also runs the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) program which addresses the needs of TBI survivors, including; reintegration into community living, independent living skills development, vocational and educational training, psychiatric, cognitive and neurological assessment and treatment, speech and physical rehabilitation as well as individual and family counseling.

DIVISION DESCRIPTION:
The Addiction Services Division is a component of CVH; a State of Connecticut non-profit facility operated by DMHAS, which provides 24-hour inpatient services. The ASD offers inpatient services located in Middletown and Hartford. Both campuses provide two levels of care:  Acute detoxification provides care for individuals who are experiencing acute withdrawal from substances. Intensive treatment is available for those who need structure and education in order to start their recovery process.
The Middletown Campus consists of one 20 bed acute detoxification unit, two 30-bed male rehabilitation units and one 30-bed female rehabilitation unit.  The Hartford Campus consists of one 21-bed acute detoxification unit and one 21-bed co-ed rehabilitation unit. Both campuses also provide screening services to determine the most appropriate level of care.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for supervising nursing staff engaged in professional nursing activities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse in a hospital, regional, institutional or psychiatric setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
  • A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Connecticut.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language in certain designated positions.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals; may have some exposure to communicable/infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive/abusive individuals; may be exposed to disagreeable conditions.
