Introduction

The State of Connecticut Military Department (CTMD) is accepting applications for a Drafter 2 (Architectural) position at the Governor William A. O'Neill Armory, located in Hartford, CT.

The CTMD is a unique dual-status agency, having both federal and state missions.  The CTMD’S primary public responsibilities are:
(1) to support the CT National Guard enabling the National Guard to provide ready units for Federal or State requirements.
(2) to train, resource and coordinate state emergency response assets, and 
(3) to plan for and protect citizens and their property in times of war, terrorism, invasion, rebellion, riot or disaster.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing the most complex tasks in the preparation of tracings, drawings, maps, plans, specifications and details from sketches and notes for projects.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Prepares and reviews the most complex drawings, plans and specifications for building and related projects; collects and uses field data; prepares the most complex designs and details; reviews sets of drawings and plans prepared by assigned drafters for completeness and accuracy; prepares cost estimates for construction and renovation projects; utilizes computer aided design equipment (CADD); performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of architectural drafting; knowledge of specification writing; knowledge of algebra, geometry and trigonometry; knowledge of building construction methods, materials, and specifications; considerable skill in the preparation of very difficult drawings and details; interpersonal skills; knowledge of and skill in the use of computer aided design equipment; ability to utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years of experience in architectural drafting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General Experience must have been in the design and specification aspects of architectural drafting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College or technical school training in architectural drafting or design, civil engineering drafting or civil engineering may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Autodesk applications and 3-D modeling
  • 3-5 years experience in developing complex drawings
