The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is now accepting applications for an exciting Transportation Planner 2 position to lead Speed and Aggressive Driving and Community Engagement Programs in the Office of Highway Safety, Highway Safety Program section at our Headquarters in Newington, Connecticut.

Position Details: 
  • This position is full time, 40 hours per week and is in the P-4 (Engineering and Scientific) bargaining unit. 
  • This position would report to a Transportation Supervising Planner or employee of a higher class.  
  • This position is eligible to apply for telework after successful completion of the working test period, and thereafter, in accordance with the Telework Policy. Employees in their initial working test period must work on site in the office.

The Role: This position is responsible to manage and provide oversight for the Speeding and Aggressive Driving program and other program areas in the Highway Safety Office by contributing to the development of the Annual Highway Safety Plan and the Annual Highway Safety Report which ensures compliance with Department policies, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration guidelines, and relevant federal laws and regulations. 

This position works closely with and provides guidance to the law enforcement agencies through strong communication and partnerships that have been developed. The focus will be on problem identification and formulating goals and objectives for addressing safety issues associated with speeding and aggressive driving. This position works closely with the Connecticut Safety Research Center to query and analyze highway safety data utilizing the Crash Data Repository.  

A key task of this position is to review, evaluate and monitor grants and invoices for conformance with reporting requirements, budgetary parameters and program efficiency.  Additionally, this position will assist in the development of community engagement and outreach efforts for the Highway Safety Office. 

Examples of Duties: 
  • Review and approve grant applications for various projects;
  • Review and process reimbursement of claims;
  • Review and process claims from state agencies for various projects; 
  • Perform project monitoring review activities and prepare related documentation;
  • Present at public seminars and work with media outlets; 
  • Review monthly activity reports from grantees;
  • Participate in various virtual conferences, webinars and meetings;
  • May aid in supervision or aid in training of Transportation Planner 1’s or Connecticut Career Trainees;
  • Perform other related duties.
