The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF) is hiring for a Supervising Nurse for the Albert J. Solnit Children's Center, South Campus located at 915 River Road, Middletown, CT.
This is a full time, 40 hour per week opportunity in the Staff Development and Training Unit. The schedule is Monday through Friday and the first shift hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with the flexibility to adjust your schedule as needed to cover weekend and 3rd shift training needs.
This role oversees trainings for the entire facility along with the following duties:
- Provides administrative and clinical supervision of training staff in Staff Development
- Participates in the development of training curricula and content, coordinates training programs in an interactive, participant-focused style, with a focus on creativity and flexibility
- Provides oversight of training programs, review and evaluate coordination of training
- Provides consultation directly to treatment units at the facility
- Maintains records and prepare reports (to provide surveying bodies…TJC, DPH, CMS)
- Provides training to facility staff
- May provide coverage as shift operations supervisor at facility
The Albert J. Solnit Children's Center South Campus is a state-administered Psychiatric facility for Connecticut's children who are under the age of eighteen, located on a 67-acre campus overlooking the Connecticut River in Middletown, CT. The center provides comprehensive care to children and adolescents with severe mental illness and related behavior and emotional problems who cannot be safely assessed or treated in a less restrictive setting.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for supervising nursing staff engaged in professional nursing activities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse in a hospital, regional, institutional or psychiatric setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been at the level of a Head Nurse, Head Nurse (Correctional Facility), Forensic Head Nurse or Clinical Nurse Coordinator working with the type of individuals serviced by the agency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
1. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
2. A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
1. Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Connecticut.
2. Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language in certain designated positions.
3. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
