The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) – South Region seeks a talented and qualified individual for the position of Lead Dentist (PCN 023333) to be based out of our Private Health Services Division in Norwich, CT. This is a full-time (40) hours per week, first shift position, with a work schedule of Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm.  However, work schedule flexibility is required in order to meet the demands of the job.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In state facilities this class is accountable for acting as a working supervisor responsible for the clinical dental program as well as for performing dental and oral surgical work.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Coordinates unit workflow; determines priorities; assigns and reviews work; establishes and maintains unit procedures; provides staff training and assistance; conducts or assists in conducting performance evaluations; acts as liaison to other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; performs dental and oral surgical work as outlined in Dentist class specification; oversees ordering of supplies and equipment and ensures equipment properly maintained; lead Dental Interns, Dental Hygienist, Dental Assistants and/or other dental staff as assigned, may supervise dentist; performs related duties as required.  Additional information can be found here.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of dental surgery with particular reference to oral pathology; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; skill in dental operative techniques; supervisory ability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of experience as a dentist.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license to practice dentistry in Connecticut.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals and may be exposed to disagreeable conditions, communicable and/or infectious diseases and risk of injury from assaultive and/or abusive individuals.
