Introduction


The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) - West Region, has two (2) current job opportunities for Developmental Services Supported Living Worker, in Danbury.

  • Position One (pc# 015909): 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday & Thursday (Regular Days Off Monday & Tuesday).
  • Position Two (pc# 109377): 11:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday (Regular Days Off Friday & Saturday).

Selection Plan

In order to be considered for this job opening you must be a current State of CT employee of the agency listed above for at least six (6) months of full-time service or full-time equivalent service, absent any applicable collective bargaining language, and meet the Minimum Qualifications as listed on the job opening.  You must specify your qualifications on your application. 

All state hospital employees or employees working in a long-term care setting or prospective state hospital employee or prospective employee working in a long-term care setting shall follow Special Act 22-1.

  • Must have a valid CT driver's license.
  • Will be required to travel.
  • Will be required to obtain an F-Endorsement on their driver’s license by the completion of the working test period.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Developmental Services, within a regional Supported Living Program/Individual Supports, this class is accountable for implementing programs, providing care, guidance, training and supervision of individuals living in the community.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Implements programs and monitors an assigned caseload of individuals living in a community setting; functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team and participates in service delivery plan process for individuals; provides guidance and support for individuals to develop independent living skills; participates in and assists individuals with activities of daily living; assists individuals in accessing goods, services and supports required for independent living without 24 hour supports; reinforces appropriate individual behavior through modification techniques; responsible for individuals health and safety; observes and reports individual behavior; serves as advocate for government subsidies and redetermination hearings; transports individuals; acts as liaison to individuals and their families or various community agencies or organizations; provides concise and accurate reports and documentation; may make recommendations on policies or standards; may administer and track medications with appropriate certification; may administer first aid in emergency situations; may schedule and attend appointments with individuals; may maintain individuals financial records; may restrain individuals; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of modern methods of working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and other related conditions; knowledge of safety, hygiene and health practices and procedures; knowledge of state and federal assistance programs; knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes, regulations and procedures; some knowledge of medication administration and effects of medication; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to recognize and report behavioral changes; ability to coordinate and collaborate effectively with individuals, groups and families; ability to work independently and make decisions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of experience in direct residential support services to individuals with intellectual disabilities and other related conditions at the level of a Developmental Services Worker 1 (or equivalent experience in a human service field).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following experience:
CPR Certification.
  • Experience with or coursework in Psychological Management Techniques (PMT).
  • Experience working with DS Case Managers and other support DDS staff.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience working with people of all ages with different behavioral and medical needs who are living with their own families.
  • Experience working autonomously serving individuals in community settings.
  • Experience with or coursework in Microsoft Office apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language.
  2. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator license.
  3. Incumbents in this class may be required to be certified in medicine administration.
  4. Incumbents in this class may need to possess and maintain a public service endorsement.
  5. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class must possess physical and emotional health for efficient performance of duties; a physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals; may have exposure to communicable/infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive/abusive individuals; may be exposed to disagreeable conditions.
