Position Highlights:
Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Inspectors are necessary for the safety and well-being of MMA fighters and for the safe regulation of MMA events.
Key Responsibilities for inspectors include:
- Inspecting the premises, ring and equipment prior to the arrival of contestants;
- Being paired with a contestant throughout the event;
- Ensuring the integrity of the competition by ensuring no equipment and/or procedural violation occurs; Including the wrapping of hands prior to gloves, assisting with drug testing, ensuring no contraband is possessed by the contestant or his/her team, and ensuring no performance enhancing food or drug is ingested prior to the event.
Role Details:
These vacancies are per diem positions.
Travel will be required throughout the state to get to and from events, contests and exhibitions. Some locations include, but are not limited to: Hartford, Bridgeport, New Haven, and Stamford.
The salary for these positions include:
- Inspectors: $125 per event, contest or exhibition;
- Lead Inspectors: $175 per event, contest or exhibition.

Selection Process:

Selection for employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the background investigation.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, this class is accountable for the performance of duties associated with the regulation of the sports of boxing and mixed martial arts in accordance with C.G.S. Chapter 532a.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Enforces all rules and regulations for boxing and mixed martial arts events; inspects and validates the proper use of protective equipment; inspects wrapping of fighters hands and gloving; validates compliance with regulatory standards; verifies proper license of participant at event; inspects facilities for compliance of state fire safety regulation and emergency medical equipment requirements; ensures order and safety around the ring and locker room; completes incident reports; assists officials during event; administers or assists with drug testing procedures; exhibits and ensures neutrality during event to avoid impropriety; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Knowledge of boxing and mixed martial arts inspection procedures; knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures; knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively deal with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A proven record of experience and knowledge of the sport and or successful completion of a training program for Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Inspector approved by the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate will possess:
- Inspector training or experience relevant to boxing and MMA.
