Education Support Technician opportunity within the Performance Office located at 450 Columbus Blvd., Hartford, CT. CSDE is the administrative arm of the Connecticut State Board of Education. Through leadership, curriculum, research, planning, evaluation, assessment, data analyses and other assistance, the Department helps to ensure equal opportunity and excellence in education for all Connecticut students. The Department is responsible for distributing funds to all Connecticut public school districts. The Department also operates the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System.
The Role: You will support the data collection efforts of the Office and improve overall efficiency. The CSDE Performance Office collects student, staff, organization, and assessment data from districts and schools across the state. These data are used to inform critical functions like federal/state reporting, district/school accountability, or other research and evaluation activities. Under the direction of the Bureau Chief, you will work collaboratively to: prepare and disseminate a wide variety of communications; set up systems for collecting and tracking information; automate and/or digitize routine processes; and provide high quality customer service.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Education this class is accountable for technical and statistical work connected with the operations of the department.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of increasingly difficult statistical and technical education related tasks within a bureau or division of the Department of Education; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Knowledge of principles and practices of public administration; knowledge of organization and operation of public schools; knowledge of general office procedures; some knowledge of statistical methods and procedures; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to analyze and evaluate applications and similar material.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years of experience in technical work in an area of education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional experience in an education setting.
- Experience in Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) working with pivot tables, filtering/sorting data, mail merges, data validations, slide template modifications, exporting data, and simple database queries.
- Experience writing, proofreading, and formatting documents for content as well as editing for readability, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Experience in a customer service focused environment, utilizing written and verbal communication to assist customers.
- Experience supporting data collections through data analysis, cleaning data, training data providers, and following up with data providers.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
