Who we are:
The Connecticut State Department of Education(CSDE) is the administrative arm of the Connecticut State Board of Education. Through leadership, curriculum, research, planning, evaluation, assessment, data analyses and other assistance, the Department helps to ensure equal opportunity and excellence in education for all Connecticut students. 

The Role:
The Education Consultant will provide extensive support in the areas of marketing and outreach to families in support of school choice options, as well as serve as the community liaison.  Duties will include collaborating extensively with districts and school operators to maximize educational opportunities for Hartford area students; collaborating with community-based organizations and parent information supports to identify and reach underserved populations to support Connecticut families and facilitate outreach; working with marketing contractors to make the best use of state funds to attract and recruit applicants to school choice programs, and help ensure compliance with statutory and judicial goals aimed at providing an integrated educational setting for students in the Greater Hartford Region; and troubleshooting problems and concerns on behalf of applicant families, resolving issues and communicating results. 

This is a full time Monday to Friday position that is located at 450 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford, CT.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Education, plans and executes programs of extensive difficulty and scope for the improvement of education in the State; does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assists a Bureau Chief in supervising the broad educational programs and services offered by the State; develops and administers specific programs of major importance within the framework of policies outlined by the Bureau Chief; provides professional leadership and guidance to school authorities, professional organizations, students and various community groups and individuals; may assist in preparing and administering the allocated budget, and in directing the routine functioning of the bureau.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Thorough knowledge of the philosophy and methods of education with particular reference to the field concerned; teaching skill; considerable ability to deal effectively with others; considerable administrative ability; ability to prepare comprehensive written reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

An earned advanced degree and eight (8) years of professional experience OR in lieu thereof an equivalent combination of experience and training as approved by the Board of Education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants with the preferred qualifications will be given first consideration:

  • Two (2) years of experience working with school desegregation plans, and working in or with school districts in racially, ethnically and economically diverse environments;
  • Three (3) years of experience in marketing and outreach, and effective communication;
  • Three (3) years of experience collaborating with community organizations;
  • Experience managing a large volume of work, prioritizing effectively to achieve desired results in a set timeframe;
  • Experience in customer service, issue research, and problem resolution;
  • Experience collaborating with diverse and sometimes competing interests of stakeholders, as well as other entities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must hold an appropriate certificate issued by State Board of Education.
