Introduction

 

The State of ConnecticutDepartment of Consumer Protection's (DCP) mission is to ensure a fair and equitable marketplace, safe products and services for consumers in the industries that we license, regulate and enforce. The Department has several divisions and operational groups, each with its own area of expertise including Education and Outreach,  Communications, Legislative and Policy, Legal, Drug Control, Foods and Standards, License Services, Investigations, Gaming, Liquor Control, Occupational & Professional Licensing and Operations.

The Investigations Division protects the public from unfair or deceptive business practices, fraud, and scams that affect the Connecticut marketplace, including those sometimes associated with home improvement and new home construction. The Division enforces the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA) and helps to mediate disputes between buyers and sellers.  The Investigations Division has one (1) current job opportunity for an Inspection Aide. The Inspection Aide in this position will  process cases and may handle investigations and inspections under the supervision of a higher class.

The positions is full-time, forty (40) hours per week, Monday - Friday and located at 450 Columbus Blvd. in Hartford.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a State agency this class is accountable for performing a full range of basic technical inspection or regulatory work.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs basic technical duties of field inspection; deals with the public, other agencies, jurisdictions, or private organizations in regulatory work such as agriculture, consumer protection, environmental, food services, legalized gambling, motor vehicle, public safety, and weights and measures; makes field inspections; assists inspectors with cases for investigation; takes samples of the premises, products, vehicles, etc.; writes reports on findings; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to conduct basic inspections and investigations; ability to interpret and apply law enforcement and regulatory requirements of the assigned agency; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any experience or training which would provide the knowledge, skill, and ability indicated above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to perform routine assignments without supervision.
  • Experience resolving customer service complaints.
  • Experience expressing ideas in writing.
  • Experience expressing ideas in group situations.
  • Experience with Microsoft office suite.
  • Experience with social media sites.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

A complete physical examination may be required prior to employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may occasionally be exposed to moderately disagreeable job conditions.
