The State of CT, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, is seeking one (1) full-time Special Investigator (ME) to work in our facility in Farmington, CT. The hours of work are Monday through Friday, 3:00pm to 11:30pm and every third weekend with occasional holiday coverage.
Our free-standing, modern facility is located on the Campus of the University of Connecticut Health Center and Medical School. The office is a state-wide medical examiner system charged with the investigation of sudden and unexpected deaths that by statute fall under our jurisdiction. Our agency operates 24/7/365 performing these death investigations.
Special Investigators visit scene of death; review medical records; may serve as photographer in routine cases; conduct investigations related to assigned complaints, alleged violations of state laws and regulations or sudden and/or unexplained deaths; interview witnesses, complainants, medical and hospital personnel and others to obtain information; secure evidence in form of statements, documents, records and exhibits which may be used in administrative hearings and/or court proceedings; researches, collects and evaluates data; compile information; writes reports and recommends appropriate corrective action; answer public inquiries; may prepare affidavits and applications for arrest warrants; may prepare search and seizure warrants; may issue citations; may testify at hearings and in court; may conduct surveillance; may secure samples for testing; may conduct legal research; perform related duties as required.
Knowledge of investigatory methods and techniques, and knowledge of medical terminology required.

1. College training in consumer protection, health care, law enforcement or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
2. College training in forensic science may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
3. A Master's degree in a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
