The Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all criminal matters in the State of Connecticut.
The Division is recruiting for a full-time forty (40) hour per week Litigation Support Specialist (LSS) to work with Prosecutors to create and offer technical support in presenting digital evidence in court. This position is a hybrid of the traditional function of a Paralegal combined with an information technology aspect. The LSS will support prosecution from the initial stages in case preparation through the pre trial process and up to appeal. They will be responsible for managing, sorting, indexing, abstracting and coordinating the large volumes of data produced in litigation.
The LSS will also be involved in the implementation and user support of the Division's new Case Management system. The position will also assist with equipment issues and provide training to users on the use of various courtroom technology.
This is a new position for the Division. Initially, this position will be located out of the Office of the Chief States Attorney in Rocky Hill, CT. However this position will be responsible for driving to multiple Judicial Districts to support litigation within those districts and ultimately may be moved permanently to a Judicial District.
The hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The selected candidate must have a valid driver's license. This position may be required to travel to multiple Judicial Districts.

Interviews will be limited to candidates whose experience and training most closely meet the requirements of the position.
Interprets complex state statutes and federal regulations governing legal records and documents; determines and applies applicable state statute and/or regulation in preparing documentation; interprets court rules and agency policies and regulations; keeps abreast of the latest court rules, calendar changes and pending legislation; monitors and adheres to court deadlines; reviews legal documents and prepares legal documents such as briefs, writs and pleadings for court filings; responds to relevant case information requests; performs legal research and analysis of law sources such as statutes, legal articles, legal decisions, opinions, rulings, memoranda and other legal material; prepares draft legal documents; provides assistance in the discovery process; provides paralegal assistance by interpreting applicable legal provisions, regulations, precedents and policies; responds to requests and obtains information of sensitive nature; acts as liaison between agency, court system, relevant attorney’s offices and general public; serves as agency liaison regarding relevant policies and procedures; prepares legal and administrative reports; updates and maintains case records, pleadings, policy manuals and filing systems; assists in the drafting of proposed legislation and advisory opinions; provides training and assistance to staff; may perform business mathematical computations; performs related duties as required.
Analyzes highly complex cases; develops positions and strategies to settle or litigate cases at formal or informal hearings; prepares for and represents State’s interest at hearings or through case presentation; researches and gathers relevant evidence and documentation; interviews witnesses and clients; drafts legal documents, complaints, stipulations, detailed memoranda, letters and proposed findings and awards; reviews substantiation appeals and provides recommendation to management regarding the legal sufficiency of substantiation findings; performs related duties as required.
This specific position will support prosecution from the initial stages in case preparation through the pre trial process and up to appeal. The position will also assist with equipment issues and provide training to users on the use of various courtroom technology.
The ideal candidate will have the knowledge, skills and ability of a traditional Paralegal combined with a technical apptitude to use existing technology and learn new technology.
The following skills are preferred:
•Advanced computer skills; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Sharepoint, Powerpoint & Publisher), Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe Acrobat products.
• Experience providing technical support in courtroom trials and troubleshooting technology systems.
• Experience assisting in creating courtroom presentations. Specifically, the ability to break down complex information into a simplified format for presentation purposes.
• Superior oral and written communication skills; experience working in a professional environment that requires patience, tact and diplomacy.
• Familiarity or experience using web based case management systems is useful.
• Superior organizational skills, ability to handle multiple priorities and deal with deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technology and learn new systems.
