The mission of the State of Connecticut, Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO) is to eliminate discrimination through civil and human rights law enforcement and to establish equal opportunity and justice for all persons within the state through advocacy and education.
CHRO has a current opportunity for a Human Rights and Opportunities Trainee in our Housing Discrimination Unit (HDU) unit located at 450 Columbus Boulevard in Hartford, CT. The HDU is responsible for processing and investigating all complaints of housing related discrimination filed with CHRO. Although HDU does not provide legal advice to the public, HDU staff is available to answer questions regarding the state and federal fair housing laws and the application of these laws.
This HRO Trainee position will be accountable for successfully completing a planned training program in civil rights law enforcement and investigative techniques while performing enforcement and investigative work with gradually increasing responsibility. The HDU monitors and enforces conciliation agreements if necessary, as well as conducting various audits to ensure compliance with the state and federal fair housing laws. HDU staff also participates in training and education and outreach activities.
This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, Mon - Fri, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
