We are currently seeking a full-time experienced DMHAS Assistant Medical Director (114345) to help lead our Whiting Forensic Hospital, a meaningful role for our agency!
Discover the opportunity to be part of a forensic psychiatric hospital's leadership team. Whiting Forensic Hospital has two Assistant Medical Directors, each responsible for a different service line within the hospital, and each Assistant Medical Director reports directly to the hospital Chief Medical Officer.
The Assistant Medical Director for the Dutcher enhanced security service is responsible for the overall quality and safety of clinical care provided to patients residing on the six inpatient units (138 beds) in the enhanced security service of the Whiting Forensic Hospital. The Assistant Medical Director, in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer, provides direct administrative and clinical supervision to the Whiting Forensic Hospital psychiatrists and interdisciplinary treatment teams and meets regularly with them to ensure the quality and safety of the care provided. The selected candidate will also work with the Chief Medical Officer to ensure resource allocation and discharge planning is appropriate.
Located in Middletown, in the Whiting Forensic Hospital. This is a full-time, (40) hours per week position. The work schedule is as follows: Monday through Friday - 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

In the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, this class is accountable for assisting in the administration of agency medical, clinical and behavioral health services programs and operations, within a hospital division.
Assists in the direction of staff, services and programs of a designated hospital, facility, regional medical area or behavioral health program; assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, goals, and objectives to ensure conformance with agency mission, goals, objectives and statutory provisions; assists in development of programs and activities including development of medical service standards and criteria; implements new procedures and procedural revisions; determines or assists in determination of appropriate staffing levels and directs or assists in management and coordination of staff; implements staff performance review standards; maintains contact with individuals both within and outside of agency who might impact on programs and services; administers state and federal regulations pertaining to medical and psychiatric health care programs, services and operations; participates on various committees and boards; may testify in court as needed; may conduct training; may assist medical director in development, implementation, and evaluation of agency wide policies, goals, and objectives; may be responsible for coordination of accreditation activities; may serve as agency liaison with external medical, behavioral health planning, advisory groups, courts, and other state medical and service agencies; may monitor contracts with medical services vendors; may participate in quality assurance studies and investigations; may develop processes and practices to improve quality and cost of patient care; performs related duties as required.
Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques; considerable knowledge of principles, practices, and issues of medicine and psychiatry with particular reference to diagnosis and treatment of behavioral health patients; considerable knowledge of recent developments in the field of psychiatry and medicine; knowledge of administration and clinical operations, functions, and systems involving medical service delivery; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable organizational skills; considerable analytical skills; ability to teach and provide clinical supervision.
Experience in a hospital, clinic or correctional facility as a board certified psychiatrist.
