Introduction



The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF) is recruiting for a full-time Teacher in Albert J. Solnit Children's Center South Campus, Middletown, CT. Albert J. Solnit Children's Center is part of the Department of Children and Families (DCF), widely recognized as a center of excellence for family-centered treatment of children and youth with serious emotional disturbances. This state-administered Psychiatric facility provides comprehensive care to children and adolescents under the age of eighteen, with severe mental illness and related behavioral and emotional problems who cannot be safely assessed or treated in a less restrictive setting. The South Campus consists of four co-ed hospital units and three female adolescent psychiatric residential treatment facility cottages (PRTF).

Our 67-acre campus is centrally located in Middletown, Connecticut overlooking the Connecticut River. The Solnit Center facilities support our dedication to helping youth improve their individual and social competencies. The campus includes: two schools, an indoor pool, playgrounds, a ball field, two gyms, recreation rooms, seven program-specific residential units, and an outdoor picnic area. #120798

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a State institution, substitutes on a daily basis for a regular, fulltime faculty member who is unable to perform his/her duties due to sick, personal or professional leave.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Conducts lessons and other classroom activities as designed by the permanent teacher. Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of the philosophy and methods of education; ability to deal with people.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor's degree.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

Upon the request of the Superintendent of School and under special circumstances, candidates who have not completed a bachelor's degree may serve as a substitute teacher in any one school district for the school year in random assignments and/or may substitute for up to forty days in same assignment. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, a high school graduate, have had previous experience with school age children and have an approved waiver from the State Department of Education. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

An appropriate State Department of Education teaching certificate, if/when employed in the same teaching assignment for more than forty days.
