We are recruiting for a full-time Financial Clerk to function as the Cashier for the Business Office at the college.  This position is an integral component to the accounts receiveable operation.  This is a 40 hours per week position, working 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for the preparation and/or maintenance of payroll, agency accounts, financial statements, cash accounting or other bookkeeping and record keeping functions in an agency.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Provides assistance to students with interpreting their student accounts; reconciles and applies payments to student accounts; maintains account ledgers, assists in the preparation of financial reports and daily balancing of a cash register/integrated financial computer system; assists with installment plans; performs collections; and responds to telephone and in-person inquiries regarding student accounts. Must have demonstrated experience in basic bookkeeping, accounting, and financial record keeping procedures; proven customer service experience and ability to work with multiple constituencies of diverse backgrounds.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of basic bookkeeping, accounting, and financial record keeping procedures; some knowledge of payroll procedures, financial terminology and coding, statements and budget preparations; skill in performing arithmetical computations; interpersonal skills; ability to perform general clerical tasks; ability to handle large amounts of money; ability to operate a variety of office equipment which includes personal computers, computer terminals, typewriters, calculating machines, cash registers, check writing machines and other electronic equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years' clerical experience in accounting, financial record keeping or bookkeeping.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Advanced experience using excel
  • Experience with accounts receiveable
  • Face to face customer service experience
  • Experience with Banner

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Persons having responsibility for supervising or observing the behavior of inmates or custodial clients will be required to possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification by the time of permanent appointment.
