The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) invites its qualified agency employees to apply for a Transportation District Engineer (District 5) in the Bureau of Engineering and Construction. This is a newly created district to handle primarily rail infrastructure, facilities, and transit projects. This is a 40 hour per week position and will be located in the Component Change Out Shop Building in the New Haven Rail Yard in New Haven.
To be considered, candidates must possess Professional Engineer (PE) licensure from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection. A valid driver’s license and travel to attend meetings, conferences, field visits, or training outside of normal working hours is also required.
In order to be considered for this job opening, you must be a current State of CT employee of the Department of Transportation, who has permanent state status*, and meet the Minimum Qualifications as listed on the job opening. You must specify your qualifications on your application.
*For employees in the classified service, permanent status is obtained after successful completion of a working test period. For employees in the unclassified service, permanent status is obtained after serving in a position for at least six months (full-time or full-time equivalent).

Three (3) years of the General Experience must have been in a supervisory capacity with responsibility for the planning and conduct of complex transportation engineering projects.

1. Supervisory capacity is interpreted as scheduling, assigning and overseeing work, establishing performance standards for employees and taking corrective measures to implement those standards.
2. For State employees, the Special Experience is interpreted at or above the level of Transportation Supervising Engineer (Construction Engineering) (Engineering).
