Introduction

The Department of Transportation seeks qualified individuals for the position of Transportation Public Concessions Supervisor within the Office of Property and Facilities Services. This position is first shift, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There may be occasional weekend and early or late shifts as deemed necessary. This position is assigned to work at the Newington headquarters facility, but due to this office's oversight of statewide operation of all 23 Concessions service plazas and cafeteria, extensive travel may occur.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Transportation, Concessions Unit, this class is accountable for supervising Public Concessions Inspectors engaged in the inspection of restaurants, automotive service stations and other concessions activities to insure compliance with operating standards as provided for in the concessionaires' contracts.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff; provides staff training and assistance; conducts performance evaluations; determines priorities and plans unit work; establishes and maintains unit procedures; develops or make recommendations on the development of policies and standards; acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; prepares reports and correspondence; supervises an inspection program for leased restaurants and automotive service stations to insure compliance with prescribed standards of price and quality of food, beverages and other sale items, cleanliness and condition of premises, and adequacy of service and service personnel; investigates public complaints and effects remedial action; assists in directing administrative activities of the Concessions Unit; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures; knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws, statutes and regulations; knowledge of the principles of effective public relations; some knowledge of public food service or automotive service operations; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; supervisory ability; ability to utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Seven (7) years of experience in general business or sales management, property management or business contract administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a current ServSafe certification is preferred
