State School Department Head (092 Endorsement)

*Candidates selected for hire that are new to state service and or hazardous duty will be required to attend a 14-week hazardous duty training at the Maloney Center for Training & Staff Development located in Cheshire, CT. This training consists of both classroom and on the job training (one day of classroom presentation and nine days of “hands-on” physical training.) The Behavior Management Program training will education on the use of physical force as it applies to self-defense, and the maintenance of order and security within the inmate population. In order to graduate, trainees will be required to pass a written exam, as well as a practical skills test which will be scored.

A Master's degree in education or related field plus eighteen (18) semester hours of graduate credit and completion of fifty (50) school months of successful teaching or service employment as identified in State of Connecticut, Regulation of State Board of Education, Sec. 10-145d-574(a - f).

• Endorsement #092, Intermediate Administration or supervision certification.
• Experience in urban/multi-cultural settings.
• Experience in a correctional or institutional environment.
• Experience participating in the PPT process.
• Experience providing data during staff meetings and PPT meetings.
• Experience with Transition Planning.
• Experience managing multiple projects with attention to deadlines and detail.
• Experience communicating verbally and in writing to multiple diverse populations and skill levels.
• Experience motivating and inspiring excellence in others, and holding staff accountable for student growth, academic results, performance, and culturally responsive practices.
• Experience using leadership skills including effective decision-making and problem solving.
• Experience using multiple approaches to address behaviors and instructional practices and empower students.

• Incumbents are required to possess and retain a Connecticut State Board of Education certification as an Intermediate Administrator/Supervisor.
• Incumbents in the class may be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle operator's license.
