The State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS) - North Region - currently has one (3) full-time job opportunities for a License Practical Nurses (LPN's) in the Individual and Family Support (IFS) Division based at 541 Liberty Highway, Putnam.
These are full-time, thirty-five (35) hour per week position with the following schedules:
PC# 122621: 3rd Shift
Thursday thru Sunday: 9:30pm – 6:15am; Regular Day Off: Monday; Tuesday & Wednesday
PC# 122622 – 2nd Shift
Thursday thru Sunday: 1:00pm – 9:45pm; Regular Day Off: Monday; Tuesday & Wednesday
PC# 122623 – 1st Shift
Friday thru Monday: 6:00am – 2:45pm; Regular Day Off: Tuesday; Wednesday & Thursday
However, must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency.

• Experience with basic nursing skills to include but not limited to: providing medication and nutrition via
G-tube or J-tube, glucose monitoring, insulin administration, respiratory treatments, colostomy care,
urostomy care, wound are, and catheterization.

In a state facility, this class is accountable for rendering bedside care or mental health services to individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities in instances where the services of a registered nurse are not required.
This position provides nursing care for individuals staying at the Putnam Respite Center. The LPN in this position administers medications and treatments which may include insulin and glucagon injections; documents medications and treatments administered. Monitors consumers’ health status and needs and reports changes to the registered nurse and to prescribers. Maintains health and safety standards for residences/programs, including infection control practices. Provides foley catheterization care, respiratory treatments, G and J-tube feedings and care, and colostomy care. Provides incidental teaching to individuals served, staff, and families concerning medications and their use; Monitors for desired and side effects of medications and treatments. Maintains medication security, performs narcotic counts; transcribes and implements prescribers' orders; ensures supplies and medications are ordered and maintained. Perform emergency first aid as needed; may provide dressing changes and other treatments. Documents all care in individuals’ medical records and completes required facility documentation; performs related residential duties as required. In addition, the LPN in this position may assume lead worker duties as assigned. This position is essential to providing services needed to ensure health and safety.
DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES: performs the full range of duties as described in the class specification for the Lead Developmental Services Worker.
Knowledge of practical nursing specialties and bedside care; knowledge of various medications used in conjunction for the care of individuals who have physical and/or intellectual disabilities; knowledge of infection control practices; some knowledge of nutrition and diets; basic knowledge of medical and lab sciences; considerable interpersonal skills; ability to keep records; some ability to lead staff.
License or temporary permit to practice nursing in Connecticut by the State Board of Examiners for Nursing.
Incumbents in this class may be required to lift/restrain individuals; may have some exposure to communicable/infectious diseases and to some risk of injury from assaultive/abusive individuals; may be exposed to disagreeable conditions.
