DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, collects parking fees and checks monthly parking permits; collects money from parking meters, monitors County parking lots for illegally parked vehicles, and issues parking citations; provides customer service to patrons of Alameda County parking lots; performs minor maintenance to parking meters; and performs related work as required.  

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES  

The classification of Parking Enforcement Technician is located within Transportation and Parking Unit in the General Services Agency.  This position will be responsible for working at Alameda County parking facilities and be responsible for working independently in issuing parking citations for non-moving vehicles that are covered under the California Vehicle Code. Incumbents in this classification will report to the Transportation and Parking Manager.  

This class is distinguished from the class of Transportation and Parking Manager in that the latter is responsible for directing and managing the Transportation and Parking Unit and has overall operational and supervisory responsibilities over assigned staff.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE:  The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification.  However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level.  Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.  

  1. Monitors County parking lots and facilities to ensure safety and enforcement of proper parking protocols.  
  2. Collects parking fees, accounts for numbered tickets; checks for valid parking permits; ensures that customers are parked in authorized areas and reports violations.  
  3. Issues parking citations governed by the Vehicle Code; issues and deletes parking/building access cards.
  4. Maintains mechanical equipment in parking lots and garages (i.e. gate arms, rolling gates, meters, etc.) and performs minor mechanical repairs on parking meters on an as-needed basis.
  5. Performs basic data entry into a variety of databases; runs reports from automated equipment and databases.
  6. Maintains cleanliness of parking lots and equipment; picks up debris; uses solvents to remove sticky materials from parking meters to ensure efficient functioning.  
  7. Drives a County vehicle to various County parking lots; keeps County vehicle clean and orderly; picks up and delivers supplies for automated equipment.  
  8. Responds to and addresses questions from customers regarding the condition of parking lots and parking citations; follows-up on customer complaints to ensure any potential resolution if possible.
  9. Collects coins from parking meters; sorts coins to remove damaged coins, foreign coins, slugs, and other potential items; processes coins into deposit bags; prepares deposit slips and deposits coins at Alameda County Treasurer’s Office.
  10. Monitors security guards and toll-booth attendants at parking lots to ensure proper work procedures; collects payments and directs traffic as necessary.  
  11. Uses appropriate technology to communicate with supervisor and co-workers. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:  

The equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience working in a public or private environment providing customer service support and including experience in cash handling.  

License:  

Possession of a valid California State Motor Vehicle Operator's license.  

Special Requirements:  

Must be willing to wear a uniform.

Must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions.

Must be able to wear a respirator when needed.
