DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, supervises the day-to-day activities of staff assigned to fleet-related duties; plans, organizes, and coordinates the service, maintenance, and procurement of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) motor vehicle fleet; performs installation of special equipment on vehicles; serves as a liaison between General Services Agency (GSA) Motor Vehicle Division staff and the ACSO; and performs related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
The Sheriff’s Fleet Services Supervisor is a single-position classification located in the ACSO and reports to the Support Services Captain (whose ancillary function is to serve as the Agency’s Fleet Manager). This classification is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating the service and maintenance of the ACSOs’ more than 500 vehicles, including but not limited to patrol vehicles, unmarked cars/trucks, special use vehicles, mobile incident-command centers, motorcycles, and All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The employee reviews and inspects all ACSO vehicles and special equipment; initiates work orders for vehicle repair and maintenance; schedules vehicles for removal or salvage and manages fleet inventory and coordinates the Agency’s Vehicle Citation Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
|
EITHER I
Experience:
The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time service in the classification of Sheriff’s Technician or equivalent or higher classification in the County of Alameda classified service working with fleet vehicle maintenance procedures, policies and practices which would have enabled the applicant to acquire the abilities and knowledge listed below.
Substitution:
Completion of the Alameda County Management Academy “Management & Supervision Certificate Program” may substitute for six (6) months of the required qualifying experience.
OR II
Education:
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency certificate, such as the General Educational Development Certificate (State of California).
AND
Experience: The equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience in fleet coordination which involved the scheduling of maintenance and repair of vehicles for service, assisting in procurement, and tracking fleet allocation.
Substitution:
Completion of an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, or certificate program in Business or Public Administration, Automotive Technology, Automotive Engineering, Fleet Management, or a closely related field may substitute for six (6) months of the required qualifying experience.
