DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision to provide photographic, printing, high speed copying and color copying services for the agency and to perform related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

This position is located in the Sheriff’s Office - Photographic and Printing Services Unit. The Technician is responsible for working with documents, digital images, and photographic film in order to produce high quality print media such as photographs, posters, court exhibits, banners, magazines, and forms. Incumbents in this class may perform photography support duties at crime scenes or other department functions. This class is distinguished from that of Photographer in that the latter has primary responsibility for performing technical photography, photo lab processing and providing technical photographic assistance to other staff members.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Operate computerized mini-lab photographic processing systems to develop exposed film; process digital images; check for, and make corrections in image contrast, composition, color balance, and general quality utilizing commercial software products; print photographs from developed film and digital media. Perform quality control duties on and maintain photographic processing equipment.

2. Assist in the graphical art design of posters, flyers, banners, magazines, and other print or electronic media utilizing commercial software applications.

3. Operate digital press equipment used for printing department forms, flyers, magazines, and other print media. Perform quality control duties on, and maintain digital press equipment.

4. Perform a variety of administrative functions including ordering supplies, inventory control, tracking photographic and printing requests, preparing monthly and annual statistics, and preparing billing statements.

5. Assist in crime scene photography and other department photography duties such as documenting Academy graduations, department promotions, other department exercises, and the preparation of photographic portraits.

6. Prepare photographic evidence for presentation in court. As required, testify on the authenticity of photographic materials presented.

7. Experienced Technicians may assist with the training of newer Technicians in the use of Photographic and Printing Services equipment and operational processes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:

The equivalent of six months full-time, paid experience in the processing of digital documents or images for the purposes of graphic art design, photographic printing, document printing, or the generation of other print media.

Special Requirements:

1. A thorough background investigation will be conducted of all prospective Technicians to ensure they are suitable for work in a law enforcement environment.
2. Technicians are generally assigned to work day shifts however, evening, weekend, or holiday shifts may be required as necessary.
3. Vision must be free from color blindness in either eye.

License:

All candidates must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
