This classification specification describes the entry level of the Adult Protective Services Worker flexibly staffed series. Under general supervision, performs crisis intervention, investigations, and casework services in response to situations involving adult abuse, neglect, or exploitation; institutes corrective action plans and arranges for protective and supportive services on behalf of clients; and performs related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
This classification is a part of a two-level, flexibly staffed classification of the Adult Protective Services Worker series. Adult Protective Services Worker I and II are located solely in the Adult and Aging Services Department of the Social Services Agency (SSA). Incumbents in this classification will focus on providing protective services to the adult and elderly community within Alameda County through the adult protective services intake process.
Adult Protective Services Worker I’s are expected to gain experience and demonstrate proficiency which qualifies them to be flexibly promoted to the higher-level classification after six (6), months of satisfactory performance with a personnel evaluation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
|
EITHER I
Experience:
The equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in the classification of Social Worker II in the Alameda County classified service.
OR II
Education:
Possession of a bachelor's degree, including 30 semester or 45 quarter units in social/human services sociology, gerontology, social welfare, psychology, or a related behavioral science field.
AND
Experience:
The equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience as a Social Worker in the field of adult or family services.
Substitution:
Completion of one (1) year of graduate work in social work may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience in pattern II above.
License:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
