Under general direction, directs the activities of journey-level technical analysts and engineers, with oversight in the design, implementation and maintenance of production systems. Infrastructure Services Directors are responsible for supervision of personnel, projects, and system maintenance as required; preparation of estimates of fiscal year budgetary requirements; and other related work as required. Technical areas of responsibility can include network; servers; unified communications; Cloud-based services; database; Geographic Information System; Enterprise Tools Administration; DevOps; mainframe; information security; or endpoint management. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
The Infrastructure Services Director classification is located within the Information Technology Department and reports to the Chief Technology Officer or Assistant Chief Information Officer. The Infrastructure Services Director is responsible for the maintenance and delegation of supervision, planning, budget, review, and evaluation of work and decision-making of the assigned areas.
This classification is distinguished from the Infrastructure Services Engineer in that the latter is responsible for the management of a specific production system whereas the Director is responsible for all production systems within their designated technologies, including large scale, complex projects. Furthermore, this classification is distinguished from the Information Systems Manager classification in that the former provides multi-departmental enterprise support, whereas Information Systems Manager is responsible for the data processing activities of a smaller department or for a major data processing section in a larger department.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
|
EITHER I
Experience:
The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in the classification of Infrastructure Services Engineer or an equivalent higher-level classification in the County classified service, supervising technical staff.
OR II
Experience:
The equivalent of five (5) years of full-time, increasingly responsible infrastructure experience (in one (1) or more of the areas described in the Description section) that includes at least three (3) years of direct supervision and workload management of technical staff.
Substitution:
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of technical experience.
NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
