Summary
The Store Clerk, under minimal supervision, maintains inventory located in Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)South Boulevard light rail vehicle maintenance facility (VMF). The VMF is a seven day; twenty four hour; three hundred sixty five day operation. The Store Clerk works in the storeroom, assisting maintenance staff in retrieving parts needed for preventive maintenance work orders, notifies maintenance staff of deliveries of corrective parts received,
documents parts received for work orders, completes requisition documents for non-existing parts, assists procurement liaison in researching and locating suppliers for parts, scans and inventories parts received and retrieved into inventory maintenance software and verifies quantities are correct in inventory, performs cycle counts on inventory, and performs other duties as directed by Warranty and Parts Manager. Must be able to assume flexible work shifts, including day, night, and weekends.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Works with all members of the parts and warranty workforce and all related Rail sections to ensure all parts and services are available to maintain safe, reliable, and clean rail vehicles and rail facilities.
• Processes requests from maintenance staff for requisitions of parts and supplies, assists maintenance
staff in requisitions for parts and supplies in inventory for work orders and completes requisitions for
non-existing parts and supplies needed.
• Follows and adheres to all storeroom standards, policies and procedures applicable to the day-to-day
operations of the light rail line.
• Maintains a library of part supplier’s catalogs and assists maintenance in researching parts needed for
corrective work orders.
• Scans parts out of inventory and processes packing receipts by adding parts to inventory.
• Performs planned weekly cycle counts to ensure the accuracy of the storeroom inventory levels.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the storeroom and assists with relocation of parts as needed.
• Complies with all safety regulations set forth by CATS, OSHA, FTA, FRA, and NCDOT.
• All other job-related duties as assigned by Warranty and Parts Manager.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Safely operate a forklift.
• Follow oral and written instructions with minimal supervision.
• Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in English both orally and in writing
• PC skills including all Microsoft Office programs.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain a City driving permit.
Preferred Qualification
Prefer an Associate’s Degree in business, transportation, or related field from
an accredited college or university.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a High School diploma/GED.
Must demonstrate a basic knowledge of computer database function and
proficiency skills with using a computer.
Candidate must have 3 years of experience working in a shop or storeroom.
Conditions of Employment
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
