Introduction

SALARY:  $16.94

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs a wide variety of general clerical and/or account keeping functions.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Prepares, types, processes, proofreads, sorts, records and files various documents.
Acts as a receptionist gives required information on policy and departmental functions to the public and follows through on proper routing of correspondence on related matters.
Receives calls and screens same, answering questions when possible or referring to appropriate source.
Maintains various types of files and records.
Assists in the preparation of the weekly payroll.
Operates various office machines, including but not limited to, calculator, copier, fax, and computer.
Obtains information, assists with applications, and prepares and processes permits or licenses after assuring that all requirements are met.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment of Business Arithmetic and English; Good knowledge of, and ability to utilize, various office automation software, including word processing and data systems; some knowledge of elementary bookkeeping; ability to understand and follow complex and oral and written directions; ability to maintain complex records and/or accounts; prepare reports from such information; ability to make minor decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established policies; ability to make relatively complex mathematical computations rapidly and accurately; ability to type from clear copy or rough draft at an average rate of speed; clerical aptitude; good customer service skills; good judgment; tact and courtesy.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

High School Graduate or its equivalent.

This position is covered under the Agreement between the City of Waterbury and CSEA Local 2001 Service Employees International Union.
