Introduction

This class is accountable for ensuring that the City of Waterbury’s Water and Engineering Departments construction and equipment inspections are properly conducted to provide optimal service to the public and to conform to federal, state and local laws.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

PART TIME CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR

SALARY: $35.00 - $37.00/hour

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Perform construction inspection for roadways, sidewalks and municipal construction projects; 

Assist with as-built drawing preparation as required; Attend project meetings; 

Keep detailed inspection notes, and reports; 

Coordinate construction activities including setting lines and grades; 

Make minor field engineering decisions; 

Act as City representative with members of the public; 

Verify contractor estimates and quantities; 

Perform field-testing of materials; 

Other related work as required or directed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Minimum of four (4) years of construction experience in asphalt paving, earthwork, drainage or concrete construction.

Recent degree or current enrollment in an engineering program (Civil, Environmental or Construction Management),
NETTCEP Certification or Engineering or survey license desirable but not required and may be substituted for
experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT

Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License; Ability to stand and work outside for extended periods

Incumbents in this class must have general good health, be free from any disease or injury which would impair health or usefulness and possess and retain sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance and visual and auditory acuity required to perform all the duties of the class. Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate weights; may be exposed to some risk of injury from kitchen equipment and from students. A comprehensive medical examination, including a controlled substance screening, will be required of all applicants upon a conditional offer of employment.
