PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

This position is responsible for billing for clinical services. This includes coordinating, verifying, and posting billable services. The Medical Biller performs tasks to meet medical billing goals established for the NHV Health Department.

Part time position; schedule to be determined but will be between 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Mon-Fri.


TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates with clinical and clerical staff to obtain charge information for all patients.
  • Processes claims for payment from clinician encounters or insurance forms.
  • Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies/state for reimbursement.
  • Reviews and corrects claims that are missing information according to applicable standards and compliance guidelines.
  • Provides a high level of customer service while maintaining professional and courteous communication with patients and insurance companies.
  • Run daily billing reports.
  • Verifies patient’s insurance and eligibility.
  • Utilize coding systems such as ICD-10 and ICD-9 to assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes.
  • Verify and enter patient demographic and insurance information into billing systems.
  • Provides basic administrative support including patient scheduling and intake, answering the phone, and medical records management.
  • Performs other related work as required.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Degree or GED required. 
  • Minimum of one year of experience in medical billing and coding is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding claim reimbursements.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance billing procedures.
  • Knowledge of CPT coding and ICD coding required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience with electronic health records.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft office suite.
  • Knowledge of the most current concepts of public health practices.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal communicable disease reporting requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional medical personnel, other department personnel, and public officials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of data.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Medical Billing and Coding Certification, such as CBCS, CPB, CPC, or CCA, from a nationally recognized organization or agency required at time of application.

1. Performs numerical calculations involving cashiering, reconciling accounts; electronic claims submission, program billing, and/or other applications.
2. Records clinic’s financial transactions daily.
3. Ensures that all financial reports for management and funding agencies are completed properly and on time.

SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a Special Fund, "Non Tested" position.

This part time position is not eligible to receive medical benefits, vacation pay, sick pay, holiday, union membership, or union contractual benefits. Any period of part time employment will not be construed in any way to mean probationary employment. Persons may not be employed in two concurrent part time positions with the City and/or the Board of Education at the same time.
