New Haven is offering exciting programs for all children, in age groups from birth-19, including young adults from 20-24 for the Summer of 2023. Come be a part of it!
Hires for Summer 2023 may include specific City Summer Camp assignments and programs; there are other Youth & Recreation programs that are provided year-round.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
This is a responsible position for a mature adult to supervise and conduct classes, provide periods of instruction in coaching or officiating, order supplies, keep accurate records and work directly with the Community Recreation Supervisor in related activities.
Assignments of the Program Specialist may include:
- Aquatics Director
- Arts & Crafts Instructor
- Camp Director
- Dance Instructor
- Naturalist
- Outdoor Adventure/Canoe/Kayaking Instructors
- Seasonal Park Manager
- Site Supervisor
- Sports & Athletic Coaching, Officiating & Instructing
- Van Driver
Some special, limited programming assignments may offer a higher rate of pay; rate based upon experience and availability of funding.
Hours of work will vary with assignment.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Person may supervise and/or conduct classes, provide periods of instruction in coaching or officiating for any of the above programs. Person is directly responsible to the Recreation Program Supervisor.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Candidate should have:
- At least one year as a Recreation, Art or Physical Education major in an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience in a municipal school or recreational programming.
- Ability to work with groups ranging from grades K – 12.
- Experience in the area of instruction.
- Van Driver requires current valid driver’s license.
SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a General Fund, "Non Tested" position.
This Seasonal position is not eligible to receive medical benefits, vacation pay, sick pay, union membership, or union contractual benefits. Any period of Seasonal employment will not be construed in any way to mean probationary employment. Persons may not be employed in two concurrent positions with the City and/or the Board of Education at the same time.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
