PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Supervise and/or teach swimming and flotation techniques to children and adults, at City pools, camps, and/or Lighthouse Beach.
Supervision may include guiding and informing patrons of dangers and emergencies, and taking steps to ensure the safety of residents at swimming locations.
This is a very responsible and visible position that is critical to the success and enjoyment of City swimming and recreation programs.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain order in the pool or swimming areas and perimeters at all times.
- Be aware of telephone locations and emergency phone numbers.
- Check emergency apparatus daily.
- Maintains daily log of program participants.
- Responds to emergencies accordingly.
Hours of work will vary with assignment.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS include:
Lifeguard
- Must be 16 years or older.
- Current CPR certification
- Current First Aid certification
- Current Lifeguard certification
Water Safety Instructor
- Must be 17 years of age or older
- Current First Aid Certification
- Current Lifeguard certification
- Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Current Water Safety Instructor Certificate
SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a General Fund, "Non Tested" position.
This Seasonal position is not eligible to receive medical benefits, vacation pay, sick pay, union membership, or union contractual benefits. Any period of Seasonal employment will not be construed in any way to mean probationary employment. Persons may not be employed in two concurrent positions with the City and/or the Board of Education at the same time.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
