PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
This is supervisory and skilled work in the support of Public Works services. Duties include the supervision of Public Works staff and activities. Activities include the supervision of equipment operators, truck drivers, semiskilled and unskilled laborers in the operation of snow removal, street cleaning and roadway maintenance, bulk trash pick-up, refuse/recycling activities and fleet maintenance.
The employee exercises initiative and discretion in the assignment of daily activities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director or designee.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assigns and supervises work crews in support of daily activities within the Department of Public Works.

Schedules and supervises street cleaning programs and operations.

Assists with the supervision of winter operations and snow removal.

Coordinates and supervises street repairs.

Assists with the daily assignment and supervision of crews in support of the collection of refuse and recyclables.

Oversees the pick-up of bulk trash operations, prepares reports and records as required and may act as the division supervisor in their absence.

Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or vocational school, 3 years of experience in pavement maintenance, construction work or the collection of refuse and recyclables; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, tools and practices used in the maintenance and repair of streets.
- Considerable knowledge of refuse collection procedures and the proper disposal requirements.
- Ability to assign, direct and supervise the work of groups of skilled and unskilled employees.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, associates, subordinates and vendors.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with the endorsement of Air Brakes.

SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a General Fund, "Tested" position.
This position is included in a collective bargaining agreement with Local 3144, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees; the salary is within Local 3144, Range 6.

General Funded hires into this class are not covered by Social Security and will not pay Social Security taxes. They instead participate in the City Pension; the employee contribution rate is 10% of pay.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.
Selection Plan
