The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) Public Affairs Division is seeking a talented Social Media Specialist to enhance its online presence. The Social Media Specialist’s main objective is to assist with the ongoing development and execution of a social media strategy including day-to-day operations of social media and communications initiatives across multiple social media accounts. The position will also assist with communications with internal and external constituencies to include coordinating with the appropriate offices to create effective communication, particularly in dealing with timely or crisis situations.
· Demonstrated ability to proficiently use social media management and
analytics software, like Hootsuite, for effective campaign planning, execution
and analysis.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Editing and making graphics on Canva preferred.
· Recording video (reels/stories) on iPhone.
· Ability to develop relationships.
· Proficient in AP style.
· Outstanding analytical, planning and organizational skills.
· Extensive problem-solving skills and solutions-oriented approach.
· Excellent proofreading, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent videography, photography, storytelling and editing skills.
· Handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines while prioritizing.
· Integrate public relations and marketing programs supporting overall
goals and objectives.
· Work independently and virtually with mobility.
· Learn new technology quickly.
· Perform and excel within an integrated fast-paced team environment.
· Media list building and maintenance, editorial calendar development and
maintenance, press release, advisory, etc. writing/development and pitching
experience.
· Extensive problem-solving skills, proactive with content/work and
solutions-oriented approach with everything; ability to manage up.
· Respond immediately to a situation, follow up, provide necessary talking
points and/or recommendations regarding the situation, work with other
departments as necessary to coordinate efforts and roles, etc.

agency’s overall. communications approach.
· Results oriented and data driven.
· Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook and etc.
· Adobe Creative Cloud skills.
· Work nights and weekends as necessary; ongoing on-call expectations.

Working Conditions:
· Work is performed in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure

· High school graduate or equivalent with five (5) years of relevant work
experience.
· OR Associate's degree and three years (3) of relevant work experience.
· OR Bachelors degree with one (1) year of relevant work experience.
