Summary

The Code Enforcement Training Coordinator coordinates the onboarding of new employees in accordance with the HNS Reimagined principles and coordinates continuing education for existing employes.  In addition, this team member will assist the Code Enforcement Manager in carrying out the operations of the Code Enforcement Division. This position reports to the Code Enforcement Operations Manager and works with a team of Code Enforcement Coordinators to ensure consistent and effective implementation of code enforcement functions across the city.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the onboarding of new employees.
  • Create, update, and maintain training materials.
  • Oversee the state certification process and act as liaison with the NC Department of Insurance.
  • Facilitate continuing education for existing employees and ensure all employees comply with continuing education requirements.
  • Work closely with senior inspectors to facilitate field training for new staff.
  • Assists with special projects assigned by the Code Enforcement Manger.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to prepare and present clear and concise reports to staff, supervisors, management, and City Council members.
  • Ability to plan, develop, organize implement and evaluate assigned areas.
  • Exceptional organizational, planning and time management abilities.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain City driving authorization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Knowledge of the Unified Development Ordinance, Charlotte Housing Code, State Building Regulations and Health and Sanitation codes.

Preferred Qualification

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred, but not required.
  • Previous training experience, such as one-on-one, classroom, or online preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent and five years related work experience, OR Associate's Degree with three years related work experience, AND NC State Building Certification Level 1

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
