Summary

Under general supervision, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, the Senior Accountant will perform professional accounting duties in the creation and maintenance of accounting records, the analysis of financial transactions, the verification of accounting records and financial data, and the asserting of compliance with established laws, procedures, and policies as related to financial reporting. This position has the potential to be hybrid (remote work option in accordance with department and city policies) and reports to the Financial Controls Supervisor:

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs high level accounting functions associated with organizational revenue billings, collections, deposits, and capital grants processes and transactions. Assists with cash, credit card, operation review and account audits. 
  • Performs account reconciliations; developing and preparing general ledger reports and verifying accuracy of general ledger transactions. Conducts month-end account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance for cash, account receivables, inventory, revenues, expenses, and fund balance.
  • Perform weekly revenue verification and bank activity verification to general ledger accounts. Download the bank statement, tally the bank transactions with receipts/ payment details, bifurcate the transactions and complete the accounting.
  • Oversee all transit revenue: revenue accruals, service agreements, cash and credit card statistics report, lease payments/revenue, transit advertising, bus, and light rail revenue.
  • Maintains subsidiary schedules and reconciles general ledger accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, verifying transactions, and resolving discrepancies for FMS, Peoplesoft, RAPT DEV and other CATS system.
  • Works with other CATS team members and City Finance team to prepare and submit month-end accruals and other required journal entries.
  • Represents CATS Financial reporting team in a professional manner while interacting with internal and external customers and show accountability by attending required meetings and completing work tasks in a time efficient manner.
  • Collaborates with other team members and actively participates in special projects which may be assigned as needed depending on the work experience and qualifications.

  • Participates in National Transit Database (NTD) Triennial Review processes, responsible for Vanpool accounting, reconciliation process and monitoring of CATS revenue and accounts receivable transactions. 
  • Helps coordinate external reporting, i.e., National Transit Database, Cost Allocation Plan, Urban Operating Statement, CATS TRAX, American Bus Benchmarking Group (ABBG), Benchmarking Group of North American Light Rail Systems (GOAL).
  • As part of your responsibility to support the CATS Safety Culture, report safety concerns and issues through the various methods established by CATS as outlined in the ASP.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel (pivot tables)
  • Ability to learn appropriate related software applications
  • Ability to learn new processes in a fast paced, deadline driven, team-oriented environment
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four year degree with major coursework in accounting, business, finance or related field
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in accounting, auditing, or finance positions with knowledge of financial controls and principles
  • Ability to obtain a City Driving Permit. 

Conditions of Employment
