Summary

This position is responsible for installation and maintenance of various traffic control devices with a focus on Pavement Markings.  Position assists crews in the installation, maintenance, or repair of pavement markings. Work involves heavy manual labor.  This position works primarily in the Pavement Markings Section, however if needed, may be assigned work in other sections or on specialized projects.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1.  Install and maintain pavement markings. 
  2.  Operate a variety of specialized pavement marking tools and equipment. 
  3.  Load and unload materials, supplies, and equipment. 
  4.  Ensure all related Pavement Markings tasks are completed correctly and efficiently. 
  5.  Maintain detailed work records including maintenance forms, inventory forms, vehicle inspections forms, daily work logs and other documentation. 
  6.  Set up temporary traffic control, safety cones and signs according to the CDOT WATCH handbook, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and specialized training. 
  7.  Maintain a safe work environment by following appropriate procedures, utilizing personal protective equipment and recognizing and reporting unsafe conditions and actions. 
  8.  Perform related work as required.

Preferred Qualification

  •  Experience with work hazards, work zones, safety precautions, 811 Locates procedures, OSHA regulations, ground construction, specialized equipment and hand tools, traffic signal control, wires, communication, read and interpreting prints, and traffic systems is preferred. 
  •  Computer experience preferred; including but not limited to typing, word documents, spreadsheets, and work order management system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent or one (1) year related work experience 
  • Must have and maintain a Class ‘A’ CDL Driver’s License with ability to obtain and maintain a City Driving Permit

Salary

  • $43,400.00 - $46,909.00 / Year

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
