Summary

We are seeking an aspiring engineer to fill an Engineering Intern position. Our ideal applicant is a current student or a recent graduate of engineering program. While you do not need to have prior job experience, you must have a high GPA.  In this position, you will be expected to learn the ins-and-outs of our daily routines and procedures. You will focus on learning how our organization runs under the supervision of our more senior employees while we will provide an opportunity for career exploration and development, and to learn new skills.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Learn the responsibilities of an engineer.
  • Fulfill administrative duties around the office.
  • Incorporate academic knowledge into hands-on work.
  • Perform clerical duties, maintain files, and organize documents; photocopy, fax, etc. as needed.
  • Assist in preparing information and research materials; create and maintain PowerPoint presentations
  • Take notes and memos during meetings; type documents, drafts, and reports; sort and manage files
  • Run general industry related errands
  • Manage databases and input information, data, and records
  • Attend company functions and networking events
  • Shadow multiple office positions and train in a variety of tasks
  • Review land development plans.
  • Attend field visits.
  • Complete post construction inspections for ADA compliance

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Willingness to learn new skills.

Strong organizational and communications skills

Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Self-directed and able to work without supervision.

Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas.

Preferred Qualification

  • Recent degree or current enrollment in an engineering program
  • High GPA

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment in an accredited college or university leading towards a Bachelor's degree with major course work in a related field of study specific to the departmental and/or work assignment.

Salary

$37,404 - $39,898

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
