Summary
The Unidirectional Flushing Crew Chief is responsible for water quality and preventive maintenance for the water distribution system. This includes water mains and distribution system water valves and fire hydrants. Testing for chlorine residual, turbidity and iron. This position is responsible for interpreting water quality test results and data input in the UDF data spreadsheet and/or system software. Ability to interpret and analyze system static and residual pressures. Determine proper UDF water flow rates to ensure UDF water quality best practices. This position is essential to our operations and the community and may require overtime, holidays, call-backs, outside normal scheduled hours. This position is responsible for supervising two UDF Technicians in performing daily tasks.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Leads and supervises UDF Water Quality Technicians on jobsite and performs lead, skilled and semi-skilled tasks related repair and maintenance of water distribution systems; exercise water valves, preform previntive maintenance on fire hydrants.
• Use machines or power tools to cut streets and driveways.
• Transports materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites; sets up and removes warning signs and traffic control devices.
• Operates the following: electronic utility locators; hand and power tools, equipment such as, chain saw, gas monitors, air compressors, pneumatic tools and generators.
• Drives vehicles such as a hauling a trailer or other small equipment.
• Maintains truck inventory; maintains clean and safe work area.
• Interpret pressure gauges
• Monitor flow gauges
• Performs inspections, technical tasks and troubleshooting activities relative to area of responsibility.
• Conducts water quality field sampling and testing.
• Calibrates, maintains, and repairs all analyzers/equipment.
• Ensures all safety protocols are followed.
• Utilizes GIS applications and maps; to locate system valves and fire hydrants.
• Keeps detailed and accurate records; enters data into UDF Spreadsheet.
• Maintains inventory of chemicals and equipment.
• Works with others to identify system water quality challenges and works to resolve related concerns.
• Prepares chemical standards and reagents; calibrates, operates, maintains and troubleshoots a variety of analytical and field instruments.
• Safely handles potentially hazardous chemical and biological solutions/samples; complies with state certification and federal guidelines.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is physical and heavy work that requires applying up to 20 pounds of force constantly; applying 30 pounds of force frequently; and exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing,

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Field Operations runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work is typically performed outside in all weather conditions and exposed to natural elements such as heat, rain, sleet and snow. The work may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands. Requires working overtime, various shift hours, on-call as scheduled, and during work-related emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
• High School diploma or GED
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license
• Obtain City of Charlotte driving permit

$45,659.00 - $50,731.00 Commensurate with Experience
