Summary

The City of Charlotte Aviation Department is seeking a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Professional Development Intern at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The selected candidate will provide support to the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Professional Development staff in communications, program management, DEIB strategy execution, class development and instruction, LMS management and other Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Professional Development related functions. This position requires creative thinking, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to function in a fast-paced atmosphere.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides administrative support to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Professional Development. Typing, editing, and proofing correspondence and organization publications. Perform data entry into the Learning Management System, run reports through the LMS and track upcoming class registrations.
  2. Support DEIB strategic efforts by working alongside the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Professional Development team in planning discussions, attending DEIB Council meetings, attending and assisting in classes and activities aligned with DEIB strategy.
  3. Collaborate on curriculum development by attending group meetings on upcoming courses, providing input on curricula, assisting in the writing, editing, and layout of class materials. 
  4. Provide assistance in class planning and execution by reserving space, overseeing administrative efforts for printing, transport of materials, classroom setup, classroom breakdown and compilation and analysis of evaluations. Attend classes and provide support in classroom setting, with potential to facilitate components in a class.
  5. Assist in ordering materials and items as needed.
  6. Assist in Wall of Fame nomination process including review of individual nominations to assure they align with criteria for awards.
  7. Complete special projects and perform research.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of standard clerical procedures
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of DEIB terminology and practices
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse group of employees of varied backgrounds with a wide variety of needs
  • Ability to work effectively with co-workers, other departments and the traveling public
  • Skills to provide first-rate customer service for internal and external customers while representing the airport in a positive and professional manner
  • Ability to carry out assignments based upon brief and general instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently on responsible and confidential administrative assignments
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment or recent graduate of an accredited college or university leading towards a Bachelor's degree with major course work in a related field of study specific to the departmental and/or work assignment.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
