Summary
This position manages the daily operations for the assigned area within Charlotte Water. Work involves supervising operations staff; manages and monitors activities and use of equipment/vehicles; manages acquisition, preventative maintenance, repair, disposal, and telematics (tracking and diagnostics) of vehicles/equipment/needed resources; monitors related budget and expenses; supports goals; resolves related problems; and ensures compliance with related laws, regulations, and safety requirements. This position provides leadership in managing work and productivity, supporting goals and objectives, and supervising operations and related functions.

Work Schedule: 2nd Shift Monday - Friday 3:00pm - 11:30pm
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Leads and develops a multi-skilled workforce supporting the goals and objectives of the organization; coaches and motivate team members; and communicates needs and expectations.
• Supervises and coordinates work activities of assigned staff; assigns work, monitors status of work, and inspects completed work; participates and provides input in staffing decisions relative to hiring, firing, discipline, and promotional opportunities; evaluates performance; mentors staff; and aids with career development.
• Participates in the operations management planning of a division.
• Develops and manages the operation plan and budget for assigned area.
• Consistently monitors Zone performance and operation to meet goals set forth by Charlotte Water.
• Identifies and acquires necessary personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies to support operations.
• Responds to emergencies; facilitates emergency response planning.
• Meets with business partners for opportunities to maximize the use of technology and improve work practices and service delivery.
• Meets with vendors and suppliers.
• Monitors and assists with developing cost-effective work practices to improve team productivity.
• Works with others to prepare and implement weekly work plans.
• Assists with preparation of daily/week work schedule requirements; assists with prioritizing, scheduling, and assigning work orders.
• Ensures that proper work order documentation is completed for all job assignments.
• In emergency conditions, assists with work support requirements such as staging of parts, materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Ensures that work completed meets performance standards whether repairing vehicles, reading meters, generating accurate billings, handling hydrant permits, or reviewing plans for new stations.
• Ensures that effective and timely communications are maintained among team
members and other appropriate stakeholders; attends team meetings.
• Provides technical expertise and work assistance to work teams; monitors and
supports field operations; resolves team conflicts; and provides safety review.
• Provides inspections of in-progress and completed work for high priority work
assignments to ensure quality control and work site safety standards are maintained by conducting site visits daily.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is sedentary work and requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to
move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: feeling, hearing,
mental acuity, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking on
uneven surfaces.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and
responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Requires working in varying
environments and exposed to chemicals, excessive noises, fumes, solvents, and dust. Work
requires, at times, working on-call and working extended hours in all weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
• Associate degree from an accredited school.
• Five (5) years of related work experience in municipal sewer and water utilities system maintenance including one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
• Requires valid driver’s license.
• A Wastewater Collection Grade 4 certification and a Water Distribution Grade A certification, or the ability to obtain certifications within 2 years.

$81,984.00 - $91,092.00 Commensurate with Experience
