Summary
The Fleet Management Division is seeking a Senior Automotive Technician to join a team of highly skilled technicians. The fleet includes, but is not limited to: light duty, medium duty, police and fire equipment. The fleet is powered by gas, diesel, and electric drivetrains. This is a 2nd shift position at the General Commerce Shop.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs advanced diagnosis & repair of complex electronically controlled gasoline, automotive diesel, hybrid, electric powertrains, and modern electrical systems that may necessitate the use of computer based diagnostic platforms.
- Performs preventative maintenance inspection and repair to comply with Fleet Management and NCDOT standards
- Utilizes fleet maintenance software to accurately document work performed
- Interpret manuals, electrical diagrams and diagnostic software.
- Understand and follow industry specific safety procedures and general safety practices.
- Maintains a safe/clean work environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience performing automotive service technician work on all types of light and medium duty vehicles
- Works well without direct supervision
- Knowledge of the methods, tools and materials used in maintaining & repairing automotive & related equipment
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards & safety precautions of the trade
- Analyze, evaluate & effectively write diagnosis, recommendations, and work performed to complete work orders
- Skilled in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials used in all types of automotive repair work.
- Follow oral & written instructions
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds of equipment and/or tools
- Possess or obtain the following licensures within six months (180) days of hire:
- NC Inspection license
- AC Recovery & Recycling License
- May be required to periodically work overtime, alternate shifts, holidays, and weekends to meet Fleet staffing needs
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Ability to effectively be part of team.
Preferred Qualification
- Degree or certification from a technical school or college.
- ASE certification(s) applicable to position.
- Experience repairing and maintaining Fleet vehicles and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED with five (5) years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties
Salary
- $50,000 - $55,932 Commensurate with experience
Conditions of Employment
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
