Summary

The Youth Program Manager – Community Safety will be responsible for: 1) oversight of the host organizations implementing the Cure Violence Global (CVG) violence interruption model at three locations in Charlotte; and 2) oversight and monitoring of the SAFE Charlotte grant recipients. This position will be a part of the Youth Programs team, which works to support development and growth for the youth of the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. This role also works closely with Mecklenburg County’s Office of Violence Prevention and various community stakeholders to monitor compliance, measure programmatic outcomes, and provide resource support.  

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides program oversight and performance monitoring for the CVG violence interruption implementation sites and SAFE Charlotte grant programs. 
  • Provides supervision, guidance, and support for direct report(s) working on community safety initiatives.
  • Conducts regular check-ins with host organizations and grant recipients and is responsible for regular assessments of the programs that includes report reviews, site visits and periodic meetings. 
  • Serves as staff lead for the partnerships with Mecklenburg County’s Office of Violence Prevention and Cure Violence Global.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on the Cure Violence Global violence interruption model.
  • Serves as point of contact for applicable relationships including with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, neighborhood associations, the District Attorney’s office, community-based organizations, healthcare systems, funders, and others.
  • Helps seek grants and funding sources for the programs’ implementation.
  • Presents for various stakeholders pertaining to the programs and their outcomes.
  • Coordinates with other programs led by Youth Programs to support community safety initiatives and youth development.
  • Participates on the implementation team for the city’s Corridors of Opportunity initiative and works to align community safety programs with the city’s broader investment in these corridors around infrastructure, housing, transportation, workforce and business development, and urban design.

Preferred Qualification

  • A Bachelor’s degree with experience in program management
  • Experience in violence intervention work preferred.  
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment is preferred. 
  • Proficiency in Spanish or another language is strongly preferred. 

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent and seven years relevant work experience, OR Associate's Degree and five years relevant work experience, OR Bachelor's level degree and three year relevant work experience, OR Master's level degree and one year relevant work experience

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
