Summary

The Claims Assistant assists the Claim Adjuster with minimal supervision. The Claims Assistant performs data entry, clerical and subrogation services as part of the claims handling process.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming phone calls / faxes / mail (date stamp) Set up new claims including data entry & coding
  • Work with third party claim administrators Date stamp and mail distribution
  • Prepare accurately & timely correspondence Copy / scan / fax / file
  • Pull reports from Internet
  • Handle Subrogation on claim files
  • Assist claim staff in all claims handling functions including performing all clerical duties associated with maintaining file materials & records

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Superior customer service skills
  • Ability to easily multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • understanding of Workers' Compensation claims handling and working with multiple agencies
  • understanding of interpreting medical reports
  • Computer literate
  • Proficiency in offce clerical skills Demonstrate excellent phone etiquette
  • Excellent language / grammar / communication / organizational skills

Preferred Qualification

Knowledge of insurance / medical / legal terminology College coursework

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent and one year relevant experience.

Or

Associate’s Degree.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
