Summary
The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is seeking a Paratransit Road Supervisor who will be responsible for supervising drivers while operating service in the field. He/she is also responsible for the training of new hires and providing refresher training when necessary. This position has the responsibility of ensuring exceptional internal and external customer service in addition to oversight of the day to day service operations. The Road Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring CATS is meeting daily service demands and that all scheduled service is completed in a timely, safe and efficient manner.
Must be available to work various shifts; holidays, nights and weekends.
Special Pay:
This position is eligible for a shift differential. Employees regularly assigned to 2nd or 3rd shifts will be eligible to receive a 2.5% premium added to their base weekly pay.
This position is a CDL eligible position. Employees working in a CDL eligible position with a valid Commercial Driver's License are eligible to receive a 2.5% premium added to their base weekly pay.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitoring schedules and recording daily work
- Promptly addressing any field problems such as accidents, breakdowns, and delays; maintaining a daily activity log to include occurrences
- Resolving customer complaints while maintaining exceptional customer service to include meeting standards/goals as established by management
- Performing supervisory responsibilities including providing feedback and recommendations for developmental training
- Issuing written citation reports
- Investigating and completing Accident Reports
- Ensuring that drivers, and self, follow all safety rules and regulations
- Interacts with and assists, as needed, with Paratransit passengers
- Investigates and responds to unsafe locations/situations and makes recommendations and/or changes to resolve unsafe situation
- Maintains confidentiality of all information
- Assists drivers and other Road Supervisors with customer assistance and roadside problems
- Maintains an effective working relationship and communicates with drivers, supervisors, and maintenance personnel
- Prepares daily reports using basic writing skills
- Seeks opportunities to increase external/internal customer satisfaction and strengthens customer relationships
- Directly support continuous implementation and compliance of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) State Safety Oversight Program Standards (SSOPS) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations 49 CFR Part 673 and 672 related to the Safety Management System (SMS) and the CATS Agency Safety Plan (ASP). Support Safety performance goals of CATS.
- Encourage employees to proactively support and report safety concerns following the CATS Safety Reporting options as described in your training and in the ASP.
- As part of your responsibility to support the CATS Safety Culture, report safety concerns and issues through the various methods established by CATS as outlined in the ASP.
- Advocate and promote a strong safety culture within CATS with regard to transportation services, capital programs, facility operations and maintenance, worksite procedures, employees, and customers following SMS and ASP.
- Participate in internal and external ASP audits.
- All other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Three years of Paratransit experience
- Knowledge of service area and ability to read a map
- Working knowledge of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) to include rules and regulations. Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office Suite to generate reports and schedules
- Ability to understand and interpret system operating rules, regulations, and policies; knowledge of proper accident investigation
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely to understand the views and concerns of others
- Ability to use a two-way radio
- Ability to make sound decisions
- Must have ability to operate hydraulic wheelchair lift system
- Must be able to maintain a DOT medical card
- Must have a class A or B CDL with P endorsement.
- Must be able to work flexible work schedules as needed; including weekends and holidays
- Must have working knowledge of Worker’s Compensation Procedures
Preferred Qualification
- Associate's Degree in Business Management or related field
- Bilingual Spanish
- At least one year of supervisory or lead employee experience
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma/GED with five (5) years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.
Conditions of Employment
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.
Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
This position is considered a security and Safety Sensitive position and will be subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing under FTA guidelines as well as all procedures and guidelines in alignment with the City of Charlotte and CATS Drug and Alcohol Policies.
