Introduction

The goal of the City of Charlotte's General Services Department is to guide agencies through innovative an efficient deployment of resources to meet their missions and fulfill the needs of the City in a rapidly evolving and complex environment. The Department will design and deliver expanded, shared services across departments and for the City of Charlotte to improve performance and save taxpayer money. General Services consists of capital project management, fleet services, procurement, environmental services, property management, and other support services.

Summary

This position is based in the Survey Group in the division of Construction, Survey, and Utilities in the General Services Department and is responsible for assisting the Survey Party Chief in field survey work in locating points, establishing boundaries, topographic work, and construction stakeout.

We are offering a $1500 sign-on bonus upon hire.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate survey instruments, data collectors, and magnetic locators for field location surveys
  • Take field notes in data collectors and through hard copies
  • Serve as Survey Party Chief on relief basis
  • Assist in downloading survey data to computer hardware
  • Must be able to walk over rough terrain, jump ditches, work in adverse conditions (hot & cold)
  • Requires occasional lifting up to 100 pounds, walking from 1 to 10 miles over various types of terrain
  • Requires using a shovel, bush ax and various surveying instruments
  • Requires working on noisy construction sites and in high traffic areas

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of surveying methods, practices, and techniques
  • Knowledge of principles, techniques and instruments in field surveying
  • Knowledge of mathematics and its application to surveying
  • Requires good driving record, valid driver's license and the ability to receive and maintain a City driving permit

Preferred Qualification

  • One to three years of related work experience and/or education in field surveying

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED and one year of experience or equivalent combination of education, work experience, and relevant industry/job specific knowledge, skills, and/or certifications may be considered

Salary

  • $39,614 - $49,254 Commensurate with experience

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
