The goal of the City of Charlotte’s General Services Department is to guide agencies through innovative and efficient deployment of resources to meet their missions and fulfill the needs of the City in a rapidly evolving and complex environment. General Services consists of capital project management, fleet services, procurement, environmental services, property management, real estate services, landscape management, and other support services.

About the Opportunity:
The City of Charlotte’s Office of Sustainability and Resilience within the General Services Department is seeking a sustainability leader who will be responsible for projects that will support the City’s strategy to achieve the goal of 100% zero carbon municipal fleet and buildings and to become a low -carbon city communitywide.
About the Office of Sustainability and Resilience:
This team is guided by a citywide vision: Charlotte will lead, as a global city, by continuously improving, protecting, and preserving the environment, its community, and economy, while ensuring equity and resilience - for today’s and future generations.
Members of the Office of Sustainability and Resilience work to achieve this mission by taking the following approach: The office will create a culture of sustainability and resilience, where everyone (city and community) is responsible for shared success, which leads to Charlotte setting itself as a global leader in sustainability and addressing climate change.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the Strategic Energy Action Plan (SEAP), including future updates, which outlines municipal and community-wide goals to reduce carbon emissions for a low carbon future for Charlotte
- Lead projects and initiatives that are cross-organization, cross-jurisdictional, and cross-sectoral with a focus on the intersection of climate and equity
- Lead strategic internal and external stakeholder engagement for the Office of Sustainability and Resilience
- Prepare and do presentations for Department Leadership, Senior Leadership, Manager’s Office and City Council
- Develop and/or support in the development of grants that will leverage funds to achieve sustainability and resilience objectives
- Represent the Office of Sustainability and Resilience in the community
- Special projects as assigned

Preferred Qualification
- Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Administration, Urban Planning or related field
- Six years or more of relevant experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the job duties
Salary
- $78,493 - $95,647 Commensurate with experience
Conditions of Employment
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
