Summary

The Labor Crew Chief II will primarily assist the Field Operations Supervisor and Operations Supervisor with the day to day operational services. 

Hours: 3rd shift: 10:00pm to 6:30am; Tuesday- Saturday

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The Labor Crew Chief II serves in an operational team lead capacity under the guidance of the Field Operations Supervisor; Assists in the supervision of crews whose primary function is the daily collection of solid waste for areas including special services, garbage, yard waste, bulky and the CATS Goldline; Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication and customer service skills; Work involves extensive public contact.

The Labor Crew Chief II exercises independent judgment and makes sound operational decisions to ensure that established performance standards and safety practices are met; Displays considerable knowledge of methods and practices in the Solid Waste Industry and assists in the coordination of crew activities within established guidelines; Assists in preparation and maintenance of operational and administrative reports.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Emerald & Kronos.
Ability to obtain a City Driver’s Permit. Requires a Class 'A' or 'B' CDL
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, or other unusual hours in support of special events or emergency response. 
Must be able to perform outdoor duties during all weather conditions.

Sitting, standing, bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, carrying
Driving (75%)
Walking (Up to 5 miles) and/or for extended periods of time
Climbing (12 feet)
Lifting (100 lbs.)
Ability to operate small hand tools
Ability to perform light manual labor in the course of supporting field operations, demonstrating work requirements, providing training, or other duties as required.
Operate cars, light trucks or vans on a regular basis.  Occasionally operate a variety of other light to 
heavy-duty equipment in the course of demonstrating or assessing equipment use or capabilities.
Work involves frequent outside exposure under all weather conditions; may also include exposure to machinery, moving vehicles, loud noise, large crowds and slippery or uneven surfaces.

Preferred Qualification

· Previous manual labor experience

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent and five years relevant work experience

$24.67hr

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
