Summary
Performs skilled level work on all electrical equipment found in sewage pumping stations, water treatment plants, and wastewater treatment plants. In addition to having thorough knowledge of basic electrical systems the potential candidate must be able to translate electrical schematics, outlines, development designs, and manuals diagnosing the reason for breakdowns and defective circuit frameworks. Able to troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and install electrical motors, pumps, generators, VFD’s, RVSS Starters, and various control circuit systems. Thorough knowledge and skill in the use of electrical repair tools and equipment. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for a work truck, tools, and parts related to tasks.
• Able to read, write and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, construction plans, and manuals
• Accurately translate work performed into Work Order System
• Diagnosing/Troubleshooting the cause of electrical breakdowns and faulty circuit systems
• Basic mechanical skills to repair/maintain pumps, valves, and other ancillary equipment
• Must work in confined spaces up to 50 feet below ground including wet wells, manholes, and valve vaults
• Able to climb ladders, work at heights of up to 20 feet.
• Obtain a North Carolina Collection System Operators Grade I state certification within eighteen months of hire date with progressive levels of certification each year thereafter.
• Available to work occasional overtime, subject to emergency call back and perform on-call duty as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of electrical circuits, and ability to read electrical schematics and electrical construction diagrams.
•Knowledge of electrical repair tools and devices.
•Knowledge of electronic instrumentation.
•Skill in using electrical repair tools and devices.
•Ability to obtain a City driving authorization.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is medium work and requires applying 30 pounds of force frequently and exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, distinguishing among sounds, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity in data, color, observations, equipment, inspections, and walking.
The work is medium level work, requiring the following physical demands at any given time: Stand for long periods of time. Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Must also be able to bend or twist their body, climb ladders and scaffolds, kneel, stoop, distinguish sounds at normal speaking levels. Have ability to reach above head, use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects (up to 50lbs).
Minimum Qualifications
Technical school education/electrical trade program, or associates degree from an accredited school, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work/industry/military/apprenticeship/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job functions
in the electrical maintenance field.
• Five (5) years of related work experience.
• Requires valid driver’s license
Salary
$53,883.00 - $59,869.00 Commensurate with Experience

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
